Our Roots:

 

In the fall of 2013 while studying at the University of Richmond, Oliver took part in something called the SNAP Challenge. A rigorous challenge that requires participants to live solely off of food stamps, in an effort to experience the challenge of food insecurity.

This short experience brought to light a problem that was so alarming to Beck and Oliver: over 49 million people are fighting food insecurity in America right now! Eager to spread awareness and create an impact with this forgotten population, Beck and Oliver established Balboa, a brand that feeds.

 

 


Every product is stamped with a number. What does this number mean?

 

The number identifies the quantity of meals that are donated through Feeding America. When a product is purchased, we donate the necessary funds to Feeding America so that specific number of meals can be distributed.

Feeding America has over 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries — helping them serve 1 in 7 Americans. The money we donate will support the efforts to make sure that the food is attained and distributed to these many locations.

 


 

We at Balboa are helping lead the conscious consumer movement. It is our goal to build an economy that is not purely based off of a dollar but a difference.
